Today is Flag Day, the date of the commemoration of the adoption of the U.S. Flag, which occurred on June 14, 1777. It was proclaimed by President Woodrow Wilson on May 30, 1916, and on August 3, 1949, was signed as an act of Congress by President Harry Truman.
When people say it takes an act of Congress to get anything done, our flag can wave that on.
We have a flag as Christians that should wave from within and without. It is Romans 8:15: “For ye have not received the spirit of bondage again to fear, but ye have received the spirit of adoption, whereby we cry ‘Abba, Father’.”
Slaves could never say “abba” to their master. It means “daddy”. Only a son or daughter had that privilege.
Like the Union Jack that waves over Buckingham Palace – or wherever the queen is in residence, so her children know she is still their mummy – as they call her.
Fear no longer drives our lives; the knowledge we were blood bought and Jesus signed it with His blood, reminds us that we go forward in faith, not-apprehension. We stand proudly in His name, declaring His truth, and that flag or banner will never be taken down. It waves us on to victory.
